Pavo supports vocational training at Bethel with practical equine nutrition expertise

As part of the Pavo Planet Program – our sustainability and social responsibility initiative – Account Manager Ulrike Berndt paid a special visit to the Berufsbildungswerk Bethel on 26.05.2025. This visit reflects our commitment to sharing our expertise in horse nutrition where it can have real impact: directly within meaningful social projects.

As part of the vocational preparation programme for young people with disabilities, the Berufsbildungswerk Bethel offers training in the vocational field of horse care. This forms the basis for further training as a ‘worker in horse care’. The participants in the vocational preparation programme are currently preparing intensively for their entry into the equine industry - an ideal time for practical input.

The practical lessons take place at Reitbetrieb Waterboer in Bielefeld, a long-standing partner of the BBW. The spacious, well-equipped facility offered ideal conditions for learning directly at the horse’s side.

Ulrike Berndt delivered a practical lesson on core topics such as balanced feeding, body condition scoring (BCS), and the horse’s digestive system. With a variety of horse types on site, participants were able to apply what they learned immediately.

“It was a great experience to share our knowledge in such a hands-on way,” said Ulrike Berndt. “The group was highly motivated and curious – it’s always inspiring to see how much passion young people bring to the profession.”

Mirjam Goerrig from BBW Bethel also gave positive feedback on the day:
"For the past 4 years, we have been introducing young people to the daily work routine with horses at the Waterboer riding stable. The visit from Pavo was a wonderful enrichment for our participants. First-hand expertise motivates and inspires – especially when it is conveyed in such a practical and vivid way."

This collaboration marked a successful pilot for future partnerships within the Pavo Planet Program. Our goal is to combine professional expertise with social engagement – to empower young people in their personal and professional development.
